HOW TO ADD A SPLASH OF
TROPICAL APPEAL
TO SEASONAL FLORAL OCCASIONS

JANUARY

New Year's Day
Hanging "Sexy Pink' heliconia, magenta curcuma and cascading dendrobium orchids make jewel-toned floral confetti.

FEBRUARY

Valentine's Day
Have a heart -- heart-shaped anthuriums, that it!

APRIL

Secretaries Week
Gingers, mini anthuriums and mini birds bring the tropics to the office. Or offer a bold expression of thanks with birds of paradise and pincushion combinations.

MAY

May Day Is Lei Day In Hawaii
It's May Day with an aloha twist.

Mother's Day
Mom will feel like a lady with classy 'Lady Jane" tulip anthuriums, "Pearl White' dendrobium orchids and pink ginger.

Memorial Day
Hardy tropicals such as anthuriums, gingers and curcuma pay a long-lasting tribute. Acorn banksia, subdued colors of anthuriums and gingers pay noble tribute.

JUNE

Father's Day
King protea for King Dad! Mini class heliconias, rattlesnakes and birds of paradise bring out the jungle in the man. Reflect his strength with robust red banana blooms, red ginger and monstera leaf.

June Weddings
The proposal? Honor the blushing bride with 'Blush' anthuriums and 'Blush White' orhids. Add softly colored anthuriums, orchids and protea to traditional floral decorations.

JULY

Independence Day
For an Independence Day spark, drop red mini claw heliconias, red anthuriums and white dendrobiums into a cobalt blue vase. Repeat the ramparts in floral fireworks like 'Duchess' protea, Heliconia psittacorum and H. caribaea.

SEPTEMBER

Grandparent's Day
Say they're simply the grandest with a couple of tall 'Lady Jane' tulip anthuriums, curled red ti leves and spiraled bear grass in a bud vase.

OCTOBER

Rosh Hashanah
Start a new year with two white dendrobium sprays looped and tied to white anthuriums, accented by dracena leaves in a cobalt blue vase.

Bosses' Day
For a satirical (but attractive) statement, embellish Banksia 'Mint Julep' with Heliconia psittacorum 'Sassy."

Halloween
Create an autumn caldron with a spiral European bouquet of 'Dwarf Jamaican' heliconia in a black bubble bowl, tufted with raffia.

NOVEMBER

Veteran's Day
Salute our war heroes with 'Midori' anthuriums and 'Flame Tip' leucadendron sheltered by a tall monstera leaf umbrella.

Thanksgiving
Home and harvest are symbolized by arcs of oncidiums and hala leaves framing beehive ginger of Heliconia caribaea 'Cream.'

DECEMBER

Chanukah
White anthuriums and pearl white dendrobium orchids in a blue vase star as a Chanukah centerpiece.
Christmas
Get wrapped up in Christmas red with Heliconia angusta 'Christmas' and red and green 'Oshiro Obake' anthuriums.
Kwanzaa
Originally from Africa, 'Flame Tip' leucadendron and any true protea carry this African American celebration back to its roots. 'Mini Claw' heliconia with green ti leaves in a black vase reflect Kwanzaa colors of red, green and black.

SPECIAL OCCASIONS

Weddings
Use a Hawaii dendrobium lei as a bridal bouquet cascade. The bride can toss it at the reception.

Memorials and Funerals
Create a long-lasting farewell with a heat-resistant sympathy tribute arranged with Hawaii foliages, Heliconia psittacorum, gingers and anthuriums.

Picnics
Garnish deli trays with bright yellow oncidium orchids and tulip anthuriums. Skewer fruit slices onto tulip anthurium stems.

Pool Parties
For an impressive pool float, use a Styrofoam ring wrapped with ti leaves as a base, then tie in birds of paradise, anthuriums, oncidiums, ferns and foliages.

Graduations
'Rocket' pincushions, 'Starlight' anthuriums, 'Flame Tip' leucadendrons and 'Firebird' heliconias can launch any graduate into a new world of adventure.

Summer Vacation
Can't make it to Disneyland? Take a heart with some 'Mickey Mouse' anthuriums -- they'll last as long as any two-week vacation.

Autumn
Autumn colors bloom in banksia and birds of paradise, while burgundy 'Safari Sunset' leucadendron add the grand finale of fall color.
