Kalapana Tropicals specializes in Hawaiian Dendrobium and Oncidium
orchids for cut flowers and live potted plants. Family owned & operated
by John & Mindi Clark, we have been growing orchids for cut flowers
on the Big Island of Hawaii since 1987 and expanded our operation to include
potted orchids in 1993. Dendrobium orchids hybridized by the University
of Hawaii are grown alongside Oncidium Gower Ramsey for cut flowers in
approximately 1.5 acres of shadehouse in the Kalapana area on the Big Island.
Our potted plant operation is approximately 25,000 sq. feet of greenhouses
located in Kurtistown on 6 acres of land (which is also where we live)
and consisits of Dendrobiums, Oncidiums, Phaelenopsis,Vanda, Mokara, Ascocenda,
Encyclia, and a few other genera.
We pride ourselves on being a family run farm employing John's sister
Liz Hauanio for transplanting and her husband Robin Hauanio who is our
farm manager at the cut flower farm. John graduated from the University
of Hawaii at Hilo in 1988 with a bachelor's degree in Tropical Horticulture.
We both enjoy our buying trips to Thailand where we search out the latest
and most exotic plants for us to grow in our potted plant operation.
